Explore British Columbia's Coastal Wilderness Aboard a Private Sailboat
In the remote valleys of the Coast Range on Canada’s far western edge, some of the planet's oldest and tallest trees rise along salmon-studded rivers that rush to the Pacific. Pockets of centuries-old cedars and Sitka spruce soar 250 feet into the rain clouds, sheltering the pale spirit bear of Native legend. Just a few hundred of these rarely seen bears live in this isolated wilderness, and we go in search of them with local Gitga’at guides, First Nations people who have lived among them for millennia. The Great Bear Rainforest is also home to grizzlies and wolves and bald eagles that nest atop ancient hemlocks while deer and elk browse the undergrowth. Humpback whales, orcas and porpoises ply the jade-green fjords. We join them as we sail a maze of inlets in British Columbia's Inside Passage—a wilderness voyage into one of Earth’s most magnificent, pristine and at-risk natural realms.

Featured Destinations
Great Bear Rainforest
The Great Bear Rainforest is nestled between high alpine reaches and the Pacific Ocean. The rainforest is home to hundreds of species of plants, thousand year old trees, and wildlife including black bears and grizzlies. Along with grizzly bears there is a chance to view other wildlife like wolves, river otters, pine martens, mink, harbour seals and bald eagles. Guided tours of this natural sanctuary are available and tours have even been constructed with photographers in mind.
Kitimat
The history of Kitimat, British Columbia, extends back only to the 1950s, when it was built by the Alcan Smelters and Chemical Company. You can get a feel for the area's industrial character by taking a tour of the Alcan smelter plants or Ocelot's methanol plant.
Located 885 mi/1,425 km northwest of Vancouver, Kitimat is also the end point of a lovely drive. Between it and Terrace (to the north), you'll find wonderful scenery and several opportunities for hiking, fishing at Lakelse Lake and deep-sea fishing charters in the Douglas Channel. You can also visit a salmon hatchery.
Vancouver
Vancouver is a thriving metropolis surrounded by natural beauty. With parks, beaches, gardens, museums, art galleries and the second-largest Chinatown in North America, Vancouver lives up to its promise of offering something for everyone. With modern buildings set against green, rolling hillsides, this city is breathtaking; no location offers a more spectacular view than Stanley Park - with a zoo, aquarium, totem poles and honking geese. A short walk from the park leads to Robson Street, which offers the town's best window-shopping. Stores with European flavor share the avenue with delicatessens and tea rooms ready to serve. As architectural heart of the city, Robson Square features a central plaza with a food fair and an old provincial courthouse, which now houses Vancouver Art Gallery. Be sure to stop at 8 Pender St. - "the narrowest building in the world." Other points of interest include the Museum of Anthropology; Japanese-style Nitobe Memorial Garden; and VanDusen Botanical Garden. Capilano Canyon is site of the world's longest and highest suspension footbridge.
